Summer is here, and everybody has already started planning places to escape to, to beat the heat. What better way is there to spend the summer trekking with your friends through scenic landscapes while gazing at snow-capped mountains? 1. Pindari – Kafni Glacier Exploration

Altitude: 13120 ft.
Location: Kumaon Himalayan region
Difficulty level: Easy – Moderate
The Kafni Glacier is the source of River Kafni, which is a major tributary of the River Pindari that merges with Alaknanda River and later pours into the River Ganga. The trek to Kafni Glacier snakes through some steep uphill sections.

2. Snow Leopard Trek

Altitude: Stokla Pass 15912.1 feet
Location: Ladakh
Difficulty level: Medium
The ideal period for spotting the snow Leopard is from October to March. These elusive cats are spotted throughout the Hemis National Park. Besides the Snow Leopard, there is always a good chance of spotting many other famous and rare animals like “Nyan” or “Tinetan Argali”,(Ovis ammon); Himalayan blue sheep, called “Bharal” or “Napo”, (Pseudois nayaur); Uriel, locally called “Shapo” (Ovis orientalis), Asiatic ibex Skin(Capra sibirica), and among the predators are Red Fox, Tibetan Wolf, Lynx, Pallas Cat, and many others.

3. Kashmir Great Lakes Trek

Altitude: Gadsar pass at 13,750 feet
Location: Kashmir
Difficulty level: Medium
This trek offers a vantage points of the most beautiful lakes that dot Kashmir’s scenic land. You get a spectacular view of the surrounding peaks while resting in the remote valleys.

4. Goechala Trek

Altitude: 16,000 Ft.
Location: Sikkim
Difficulty level: Moderate to Difficult
Goechala is situated in Sikkim, which has flourishing valleys and lush green forests. One of the most stunning peaks of the Himalayan range- the Kanchenjunga peak is also situated here. Sikkim is renowned for its orchids.

5. Ladakh on Motor Bikes

Location: Ladakh, situated in Jammu and Kashmir
Difficulty level: Moderate to Challenging
There are not enough words to describe the beauty of Ladakh. Imagine travelling on these glorious roads on bikes with your buddies, with mesmerizing lakes and steep mountains on either side.

6. Har Ki Dun trek

Altitude: 11,675ft
Location: Western Himalayas
Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate
Laced with alpine meadows, a rich variety of flora and fauna, and pine forests, this trek will take you through a spectacular trail of beauty.

7. Valley of Flowers

Altitude: 12,000ft
Location: Himalayan Range in Uttarakhand.
Difficulty level: Moderate
Nesting in picturesque Uttarkhand, this beautiful valley is known for it’s endemic alpine flowers and it’s variety of flora. This richly diverse area is also home to rare and endangered animals, including the Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, musk deer,brown bear, red fox, and blue sheep.

8. Khatling Glacier Trek

Altitude:13,779ft
Location: Himalayas
Difficulty level: Moderate
Situated in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, this trek is a photographer’s delight- replete with stunning views of snow capped peaks and hanging glaciers.

9. Mountain biking in the Himalayas

Difficulty level: Moderate to Difficult (depending on stamina, age and health)
There are some treks that take you through the picturesque range of Himalays on a bike- travelling along undulating trails that will take you through the rustic villages and along beautiful lakes.

10. Everest Base Camp

Altitude: 17,700 ft
Location: south side of Everest in Nepal
Difficulty level: Challenging
Everest Base Camp Trek is a famous challenging trek in Khumbu, Nepal. The winters are very cold and snow may make it difficult to travel higher than Tengboche. April and early May is a good time to see the hedgerows and trees bursting into bloom, with Rhododendrons, in particular, adding a spectacular splash of colour to the landscape.
