Powerful earthquake strikes Afghanistan, India and Pakistan
A magnitude 7.5 quake has hit northern Afghanistan, according to
the US geological service, with strong tremors felt in Pakistan and India.
The quake was centered 30 miles south west of the city of Jarm in
Afghanistan, the USGS said.
At least 12 students at a girls school in Afghanistan’s Takhar
province have been killed, while officials said 29 people were confirmed dead
in Pakistan. The figure is expected to rise, with local reports citing a higher
death toll.
Strong tremors were felt in Kabul, New Delhi and Islamabad. The
magnitude was initially reported as 7.7 but was later downgraded by USGS.
