The iPhone 6S will cost you Rs. 1 lakh in the Indian grey market
Apple just announced some drool-worthy iPhones but
unfortunately, they won't be launching in India on September 25, which is the
day that they will go on sale in over a dozen other countries including the
United States. If you must have the iPhone 6S or the iPhone 6S Plus -- and have
deep pockets -- you will be able to pick one up from the Indian grey market for
Rs. 1 lakh (or more).
A report in Economic Times, which includes quotes from grey
market vendors in Mumbai's Heera Panna and Crawford markets, Delhi's Gaffar
market, and Kolkata's Air-Conditioned and Fancy markets, says that the new
iPhones would be available in the grey market within two days of their US
launch. Some of them have even started taking pre-orders. They say that their
agents in the US will place orders at Apple Stores in the US when the company
starts pre-orders on September 16 and ship the phones to India within a couple
of days of the Septemer 25 launch.
"The price will be around Rs. 1 lakh initially, but it
will come down after the company announces the official launch date. We have
started getting enquiries," a mobile store owner the Mumbai's Heera Panna
market told ET. It turns out that the brand new Rose Gold model is the most
popular and is expected to fetch around Rs. 10-15,000 more than the other
variants.
This premium price window is likely to be narrow, however.
Apple is expected to launch the new iPhones in India around the second week of
October with prices starting from Rs. 65,000.
Would you pay these prices to get an iPhone 6S or the 6S
Plus early?
